Cuban Food Recipes For Dinner

Cuban Food Recipes For Dinner – Do you want to travel but don’t have enough time or money? These 17 Cuban recipes are the quickest (and easiest) way to feel like you’re exploring the streets of Havana. As it turns out, some of our favorite dinners actually come from Cuba, like arroz con pollo and chicken empanadas, and we think it’s about time you dined among country cuisine. We also can’t forget all the contributions Cubans have made to our cocktail hour. Don’t forget to finish your meal with a mojito or strawberry daiquiri for a truly complete experience.

You may notice that Cuba and its cuisine are heavily influenced by Spain (it was the first and last colony in the region) as well as African and Caribbean traditions. The island nation’s staples, such as rice, black beans and hearty root vegetables, are key ingredients in many traditional dishes, and you can taste them all when you have ropa vieja (Cuban’s national dish). In Cuba, ropa vieja is traditionally served with steamed rice and black beans. If you want to go all out, you can even whip up a dose of maduro (fried sweet plantain), another Cuban specialty.

If you want to add a little Cuban flavor to everything (and we hardly blame you), you’ll definitely want to check out Mojo-style seasonings and marinades. We haven’t run out of ways to use this combination of citrus and garlic. It’s a killer dipping sauce for our fried tostones, adds a lot of zip to this yuca side dish, and is the perfect summer shrimp marinade.

Cuban Mojo Chicken

Better known as Cuba’s national dish, Rupa Vija actually originates from Spain. This classic beef stew features thinly sliced steak tossed in a flavorful tomato, onion, and pepper sauce. While many traditional recipes cook the beef until tender before shredding it and adding it to a separate sauce, our one-pot version cooks the beef and sauce together.

Classic tostones are a tasty plantain snack made from unripe green plantains. (Maduros, on the other hand, are made from ripe, sweet plantains.) Although they’re usually fried twice, these air fryers are as crisp as the classic version with a fraction of the fat—and there’s no dreaded hot pot. Oil!

Hot and spicy black bean soup is always on point: the deep purple hue gives way to a rich, creamy consistency that pairs well with aromatic onions, hot jalapeños, cumin and hot chilies. A bit of tomato puree cooked down to a slightly caramelized finish adds a layer of sweet umami to finish it off.

Although there is no agreed-upon origin story for the mojito, it is likely that the refreshing cocktail originated in Cuba. This drink uses local ingredients from the island to make the drink, namely sugar cane, lime and mint. Add rum and soda and you have a classic mojito for a beachy atmosphere.

Cuban Style Pollo A La Plancha Recipe

You know a sandwich is good when it needs 5 hours of tender loving care. Our Cuban sandwich, also called a Cubano, is South Florida style without the salami. But we don’t need that in this case: along with layers of ham, swiss, pickles and mustard, there’s also incredibly juicy slow-roasted pork marinated for 2 hours in a citrus mixture (sort of). We used shrimp mojo in this one!).

Arroz con gandules is a traditional Puerto Rican dish consisting of rice, pork, tomato paste, achiote, gando (pigeon peas) and sofrita. Arroz gondos, served with pernil and yuca chips (and followed by a glass of coquita), are perfect for holiday parties or weeknight dinners.

This filling is based on one of our very popular secret recipes. It’s delicious as it is, but if you want to give it more of a twist, we recommend adding a splash of red wine vinegar, capers and finely chopped green olives, and a good squeeze of yellow mustard. Once you have the pastries down, you can fill them with almost anything!

Arroz con pollo, which literally means rice with chicken, is a traditional dish in Latin America and Spain. This classic dish can vary from country to country and family to family. For our recipe, we used tasty chicken thighs, drumsticks, onions, peppers, diced tomatoes and long grain rice (of course). As much as we love this recipe as it is, we feel justified in using it as a starting point for our ideal arroz void pollo.

Empanadas come in different shapes with different fillings. This version is a flavor bomb with tender chicken thighs, peppers and olives, enhanced with tomato and pepper paste, but if you’re more into jam, feel free to go with mince!

If you’ve ever wondered what the difference is between maduro and plantain, we’re here to set the record straight. Maduro, also known as Amarillo, are sweet, ripe bananas. When bananas are fried, they caramelize on the outside while having a soft, sweet texture on the inside. This fried plantain is especially popular in Cuban cuisine, often served as a sweet accompaniment to meat dishes or rice and beans.

The combination of fresh and frozen strawberries in this recipe does the trick for a smooth, frozen daiquiri. If you like this drink, then we think you’ll really love our Strawberry Froze.
